Adopting from the Black Dog Club

Any person wanting to adopt an animal from the Black Dog Club must download, print, complete, and hand-in an Adoption Application to be reviewed by our Adoption Coordinator.

If your application is accepted, you must perform a final meet-and-greet evaluation at our shelter facility with the Adoption Coordinator present.

Lucy relaxing in her crate

Featured Pet - Lucy

Lucy is a 1-1/2 year old, 60 lbs. Hound-Doberman mix. It appears that she doesn’t like to do much but lie around the house or sniff around the yard. She definitely prefers to be indoors but does not jump fences or dig in the yard. Lucy appears to do well with other dogs and did fine with our cat tester, Simon.

Lucy does need to learn leash manners but we are working with her daily to overcome leash pulling.

Milo

Milo is an AKC registered Weimaraner that was a beloved family pet. Milo does appear to be at least partially house trained. He will do okay in a crate for a short period of time but is too large to be confined for long periods. Milo absolutely loves human companionship. He does not appear to be a chewer or digger but he is a jumper/climber. He will need taller than a 4 ft. fence, although he should never be left out alone or for long periods of time. Milo does enjoy going for walks but needs further guidance with leash training. He does much better listening off-leash than on-leash. He does great with people and ignores the cats. We would prefer that he be the only dog or paired with another of similar personality. Milo will need to be kept strictly indoors. Due to his color/coat, he does not tolerate the heat or sun very well nor will he do well outside in colder months. Weimaraner’s require companionship and lots of activity. He is not suitable for apartment life.

Lance chillin' like a villain

Lance

Lance is a 1 year-old, 55 pound lab mix that spent the first part of his life in a very abusive environment. He is terrified of strangers and it takes a very long time to earn his trust. At the moment, he is considered our "project" dog and is not available for adoption to a standard family unit. We would consider a long-term foster or adoption to/with a certified dog trainer or behaviorist. He needs to learn to trust again.

Midnight

Midnight is a 1 year-old, 50 pound, odd combination of Lab/JRT. He is a super sweet boy that definitely prefers women over men. He truly enjoy loves attention but doesn't seem over interested in playing. He would be best suited for a low-key, relaxed home. He does well on a leash and appears to be okay with most dogs, cats, and kids. He did test low antigen, HW+ and is being treated with Doxy, Prednisone and Heartgard.
